Passed away peacefully on Thurs. Feb. 8, 2018 at age 97, and was reunited with her loving husband, Roy; her two sons, Richard and Edwin. She was also preceded in death by her three siblings, Sylvia (Lowell) Holbert, Lavern Paulson and Norman Paulson. Bernita is survived by her daughter, Martha (Stephen) Killinger and granddaughter, Erin Killinger.

Bernita and Roy lived for over 50 years in Rockford, IL; where they raised their family. Bernita was active in many local clubs, including the North Suburban Woman’s Club of Loves Park; where she served as Secretary for two years. She was a 50 plus year member of the Order of Eastern Star of Illinois and was a Past Worthy Matron. Bernita also enjoyed needlepoint, reading and travel. In later years, Bernita moved to New Berlin, WI to be near her daughter.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to the many compassionate caregivers at The Virginia Health & Rehabilitation Center in Waukesha for their care of Bernita.

A private service will be held in Iowa this spring.
