James O. DurandJune 30, 1936 ~ August 9, 2017 (age 81)
A devoted husband, loving father and proud grandfather was born to Eternal Life on August 9 at the age of 81. Jim was born June 30th to Oscar and Ruth Durand in Niagara, WI. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Trudy (nee Dietrich); children Ann (John) Hickmann, Joan (Andrew) Klimpel and John (Cathy); daughter-in-law Cynthia; and grandchildren Melissa, James, Benjamin, William and Anna Durand, Alexander and Matthew Hickmann, Katherine and Charles Klimpel, and Thomas, Daniel and Samantha Durand. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews and friends. Jim’s son, James, brother, Barry, and parents welcomed him into Heaven.
Jim approached life with joy, and his most notable passions included sailing Lake Michigan and in-land lakes in his boats, canoeing in his hand made wood strip canoe, traveling, sharing his musical talents on multiple instruments and playing Sheepshead. He was a Life Member of South Shore Yacht Club and spent countless hours volunteering with St. Mary’s parish in liturgy, the Boy Scouts and the IRS VITA program.
Jim earned his BS in accounting in 1958 and an MBA in 1971, both from Marquette University. His career of 33 years was in finance for the Bell System, ending with his retirement in 1991 as SBC Vice President of Finance.
Jim’s devout faith in God, devotion to family, quick humor, gentle strength and goodness will always be remembered. He will be loved and missed.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 16th at St. Mary Visitation Parish, Elm Grove (1260 Church St.) from 10 AM until the time of memorial mass at 12 noon, followed by a reception.
Memorials to the American Heart Association or Alzheimer’s Association of Southeastern Wisconsin appreciated.
