Audrey A. Benning

Audrey A Benning, 92, was born on February 1, 1926 to Theresa Maitre and Richard Benning, and lived her whole life in the Milwaukee area. She died peacefully on October 6, 2018.

She taught third grade students how to read, do math, memorize poems and sing for 35 years in the Milwaukee Public Schools. Audrey attended Bartlett Ave grade school, Riverside High and graduated from Marquette University in 1948 in the first class to graduate with a teaching certificate.

Audrey often said she was grateful to have made so many good friends over her lifetime. She played bridge with them, traveled the US and the world with them, made sure that the tickets to the symphony and the Milwaukee Rep and Sunset Playhouse were in order for them each year, learned about investing in stocks with them, and overall had great fun.

She was Marion’s favorite sister and our favorite aunt. She taught us games, songs, told jokes and stories, brought us home for weekends and summer weeks; and we knew we were special to her and Ahmi Tres. She spent time with us and gave us hugs. She shared many holidays with us, and we have all benefited from her study and keen knowledge of investing. Her major outdoor activity was gardening. She loved her roses.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Marion Benning Hauer, and three nephews Richard (Debbie), Thomas, and Michael Hauer. She is survived by her nieces Mary Beth (Peter) Plane, Chris (Mike) Arrowood, her nephews Bert and Bill Hauer, 8 great nieces and nephews, and 7 great-great nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be on Tuesday,  October 16, 2018 at San Camillo Chapel (10200 W Bluemound Rd.) from 9:00 AM, with the Funeral Mass following at 11:00 AM. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers,
