Constance Dawes Simmons

1939 ~ 2021 (age 82) 82 Years Old

Tribute

Age 82, a resident of Brookfield Wisconsin, died Friday July 9, 2021 at the Congregational Home in Brookfield.

Born February 23, 1939 in Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin to Irving Hemphill and Ruth Irene Dawes.  Connie and her twin sister Elizabeth Dawes Shelby grew up in Elm Grove Wisconsin, attending Leland School of Elm Grove and Wauwatosa High School.  While attending Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri, Connie married her soulmate, Harold W. Simmons on August 20, 1960. In 1968, Connie began sending her sons to the Academy of Basic Education (now Brookfield Academy) which began a legacy of involvement and support that continues to this day.  Connie travelled the world, visiting six of seven continents from the age of 16 to 80 and influenced “her boys” to do the same.  She was happiest spending time with Harold, her boys, their families, and hosts of friends at the dream home she built on Wildcat Lake in Boulder Junction, Wisconsin.  She relished in the peace, beauty, sights and sounds of her favorite place.

Connie was a member of the First Congregation Church of Wauwatosa and the Community Church of Boulder Junction, Wisconsin.

Connie is survived by her three sons Michael Dawes (Kerri) Simmons of Brookfield Wisconsin, Patrick Elliott (Angela) Simmons of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, and Bradley James (Julie) Simmons of Lincolnshire, Illinois; seven grandchildren, Jessica (Robert) Sjoholm of Bloomington, Minnesota, Bryan (Kaleigh) Simmons of Charlotte, North Carolina, Catherine (Ryan) Brownen of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Ryan and Rachel Simmons of Brookfield, Wisconsin, and David and Thomas Simmons of Lincolnshire, Illinois; two great grandchildren Maria and Mathias Sjoholm of Bloomington, Minnesota; and her twin sister, Elizabeth Shelby of Brookfield, Wisconsin.

Connie received more than medical treatment from the nurses and doctors at Froedtert Hospital and the Congregational Home.  She thanks the special people for their genuine care and support.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 16 at the First Congregational Church of Wauwatosa (1511 Church St.) from 10-11AM until time of services at 11AM.  Reception to follow at the church.  Private family graveside services at Wisconsin Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Brookfield Academy or the First Congregational Church of Wauwatosa or the Congregational Home of Brookfield.
