Dan Smyczek of Gaithersburg, Maryland passed away on August 4, 2022, at the age of 30 as the result of a tragic accident while on vacation with his family in North Carolina. Born to Peter and Patrice Smyczek in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Dan was the youngest of eight children. Dan was a graduate of University School of Milwaukee, and earned his bachelor’s degree in German Language Studies from the University of Arizona in Tucson, graduating in 2015. Dan enjoyed sports and participated in various team sports in high school and college. Notably, Dan played hockey at the varsity level. Dan lived in Olpe, Germany for several months, working in financial planning while honing his German through immersion and deepening his understanding of German culture. After moving back to Wisconsin, Dan worked in IT and as Project Manager in biomanufacturing. Seeking to advance his career he moved to Maryland in 2020 and joined a pharmaceutical manufacturing company as a Project Manager. In 2021, Dan married his wife, Teresa Caruana, obtained his PMP Certification, and started a new job as a Chemistry Manufacturing & Control (CMC) Project Manager. Dan radiated joy to all those around him and enjoyed making people laugh with his irrepressible sense of humor. Dan pursued his personal and career goals with discipline and focus, and strove to improve everything he touched. But most of all, Dan was an extremely devoted son, husband, brother, uncle, and friend to many. Dan’s final chapter in life was one marked by the same generosity that he projected throughout his life, donating his organs to four people in need. Dan was preceded in death by his mother Patrice. He is survived by his wife Teresa, his father Peter, his sisters Julie Bennett (Christopher) and Jeanne Holtz (Rex), and his brothers Christopher, James (Margret), Peter (Lauren), William, and Robert (Julia Caruana).
