Dr. Gerald “Jerry” E. Auger, age 80, of Elm Grove passed into eternity with family prayerfully surrounding him, Thursday, February 20, 2020, after a three year battle with cancer. Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Frances “Fran“ Auger (nee Peters); his children Catherine (Steve) Kopesky, Ann-Sr. M. Annunciata Auger Carmelite Sister D.C.J., Jon, MD (Larissa), Peter (Anne) and Seth (Erin); his grandchildren Steven, Jr., Margaret, Lucas and Jacob Kopesky, Aislinn (Alex) Neuendorf, Ethan, Isabella, Gemma, John Paul, Joseph, James, Anna, Kateri, Hudsen and Onnie Auger; his great grandchild Harper Neuendorf; his sister Josephine “Dodie” Carr along with many more family and friends.
Dr. Auger, a native of Wauwatosa, began his long work history at the family owned business, Fairway Market. Losing his mother as a young boy, Jerry was raised by his father, Elmer, and Grandmother Josephine. Jerry graduated Wauwatosa East High School and at age 18 was signed on by the Milwaukee Braves to begin a brief career in minor league baseball, followed by Industrial League Baseball with Falk Corporation. He went on to complete his undergraduate degree at Marquette University. While at Marquette University, Jerry met his future wife, Fran.
He and Fran were married February 8, 1964 at Christ King Church. Upon graduating, Jerry went on to attend and graduate from Marquette University Medical School/MCW. Jerry and Fran moved their young family to Ashland, Kentucky. There he served as a US Army Medical Captain as well as an ER physician at King’s Daughter’s Hospital. Returning home two years later, Jerry began his residency at Milwaukee County General Hospital, while taking shifts at their Emergency Room.
Dr. Auger joined his father in law, Bruno Peters, in practice at the Clinic of Internal Medicine. During this time he was also employed at the Allen Bradley Medical Department where he later became Medical Director of AB/Rockwell Automation. While on staff at St. Luke’s Hospital, he served as an Internist with an interest in vascular medicine. He treated his patients as he, himself, would have wanted to be treated, with humble grace, true concern, and deep love.
Above all, Jerry will be remembered as a man dedicated to family, with exceptional generosity, deep Catholic devotion and loving kindness.
A visitation will be held at Becker Ritter Funeral Home (14075 W. North Ave, Brookfield) on Thursday, February 27 from 4 pm until 7 pm with a Rosary starting at 7pm. Additional visitation will take place at St. Mary’s Visitation Parish (1260 Church St., Elm Grove) on Friday, February 28, from 9 am until 10:45 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will start at 11 am with a private family burial to follow at St. Mary’s Visitation Cemetery.
