98, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin on August 25, 2017.  She was born August 9, 1919 in Wuhan, China and grew up amid civil war, the Sino-Japanese War, and World War II. She taught second grade math for seven years, then fled China in 1949 during the Communist Revolution. She immigrated to the U.S. and settled in the Detroit area, where she earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in accounting at the University of Detroit.  She had a long, successful career working as an accountant at MacManus, John, and Adams advertising agency, St. Joseph Hospital, and Henry Ford Hospital.

Betty was a petite woman with a larger than life personality and more energy than people half her age and twice her size. She was known for her strong Catholic faith, her take-charge attitude, and her generosity. She was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Agnes, and her siblings Tom, Francis, Sr. Mary Gerard, Sr. Mary, Lucy, and Paul. She is survived by: two sisters, Agnes Chen of Shanghai and Sr. Antonia Cheng of Taiwan; twenty-two nieces and nephews around the world; grand-nieces and grand-nephews too numerous to count; and many dear friends at San Camillo retirement community.

Seating will begin at 10am for the funeral mass at 11am, Friday, Sept. 1, 2017, at the San Camillo Chapel (10200 W. Bluemound Road, Wauwatosa, WI). Per Betty’s request, there will be no visitation; however, a luncheon reception celebrating her life will follow the funeral mass, from 12-2pm. A private burial will be held in Baraboo, Wisconsin.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
