Elizabeth "Betty" Lucy Doucette

March 1, 1925 ~ April 15, 2018 (age 93) 93 Years Old

Tribute

(nee Andres) Born to Eternal Life on April 15, 2018 at the age of 93. Former wife of the late William G. Doucette. Loving mother of Michael (Kathy), Jeffrey (Saba), Timothy (Linda), the late James (Donna), David (dear friend Sheri Abresch), Jane (Robert) Schilling, Judith (Gary) Natvig, Anne Potkay (dear friend Gordon Steimle). Proud Grandma of Sam (Elene), the late Andy, Bridget, and Teddy Doucette, Molly Doucette, Brendan and Nora Doucette, Marcus Doucette and Whitney (Chue) Yang,  Kelly and Greg (Danielle) Doucette, Daniel (Darlene) and Theresa Schilling (Troy Starich), and Christopher (Lori Pogodzinski) and Jill Potkay.  She is also survived by 9 great grandchildren.

Betty was also preceded in death by her twin brother, William Charles, and other siblings, Joseph Andres, Margaret Hering, Marianne Henke, Terry Spratlen and Susan Andres, and dearest friend, Dorothy Sherry.  Further survived by sisters, Virginia Brennan and Reene Gawronski and many nieces and nephews.

Our mother lived a long, beautiful life.  She was loved by all who had the privilege of knowing her.  She loved to make people laugh.  Whether it was with one of her many silly props (costumes, rubber hand coming from the trunk of her car, whoopee cushions, 6 foot rubber pencil, etc), or her quick (and sometimes a little naughty) humor, she never failed to get the desired reaction…smiles and laughter.  She also had a spiritual side. Her deep faith in God and the Catholic faith guided her as she raised eight children, cared for countless friends and family members in their times of need, and navigated through her own difficult times.

Mom rejoined the workforce after 25 years or so of raising her kids.  She started as a clerk in an office supply store, and quickly learned the ropes of the business.  Her leadership ability was recognized and within a year or two she became store manager where she served her employees and her customers at the highest level.  This desire and ability to positively influence people transferred nicely into her next role in office supply sales.  She earned many sales awards and accolades, but she would tell you her greatest measure of success was the lasting respect and friendships she acquired in her business life.

Betty hardly slowed down in her retirement years.  If she wasn’t tending to her beautiful garden or pulling out her toolbox to fix something in the house, she was running off on a road trip with her dear friend, “Rocky, or responding to the call of someone in need.  She was a truly generous spirit whose light will continue to shine through the lives of her friends and family.

Special thanks to St. Anne’s for welcoming Betty into their home and providing her with the care and dignity she deserved as her memory faded and her physical abilities declined. They became her second family and the last eight years of her life were truly enriched by their loving care and companionship.
