Fr. Eugene M. ("Dutch") Dutkiewicz, S.J., died on January 24, 2021 at St. Camillus Jesuit Community in Wauwatosa. He was 89 years old. He graduated from Marquette High before entering the Society of Jesus in Florissant, MO. He was ordained a priest on June 15, 1961 at Gesu Church. He worked in secondary education for two decades, at Campion Jesuit High School in Prairie du Chien where he taught chemistry and was assistant principal, and at Creighton Prep in Omaha where he taught math and was principal for 11 years. In 1982, he began working directly with Jesuits. He was treasurer for the Wisconsin Province of the Society of Jesus for 27 years. During that time, he was provincial assistant for pastoral and retreat ministries for 12 years, and was in charge of St. Camillus Jesuit Community from 1999 to 2005. Fr. Dutch was a pleasant and holy man, with simple tastes and a hearty laugh, who loved the Church and the Society of Jesus. A fine teacher, he was a principal who took special care of his faculty. A skilled administrator, he learned money management and oversaw finances. He purchased properties and led construction projects. He was as much a worker bee as a leader. He was known for his wisdom and efficiency. Born in Milwaukee on June 4, 1931 to John and Anna Dutkiewicz, he was predeceased by them and his brother Edward and sister-in-law Geraldine. He will be greatly missed by his nephew Wayne Dutkiewicz and nieces Deborah Lewandowski, Heidi Hybicki and Gail Gagner.
Due to Covid-19, a private Mass of Christian Burial will take place at a later time in Milwaukee.
