Ian Michael Lang

September 25, 2002 ~ June 15, 2021 (age 18) 18 Years Old

Tribute

On Tuesday, June 15, 2021, our unimaginably big-hearted, loving, witty, one-of-a kind son, Ian Lang, passed peacefully at the age of 18.

Ian was born on September 25, 2002, to Jonathan Michael Lang and Hillary Robin Lang.

Ian had an undeniable love of and respect for all cars, especially high-performance sports cars. This passion was shown in his involvement and admiration for the industry and the connections that Ian made in every facet of the field. He loved his work at his car customization job and continued to work until his final days.

Ian also loved fishing and hunting and shot trap like a pro. He even requested that his second medical port was placed on the left side of his chest so he could continue to shoot throughout treatment.

Ian was known for his quick wit, infectious smile, and incredibly kind and compassionate spirit.  Through years of treatment, Ian never complained about his situation and took everything in stride. He was so resilient in his battle and left a lasting impact on everybody who crossed his path. Ian had an uncanny ability to make friends with anyone – from holding newborns to befriending people four times his age. He regarded everyone as his best friend and had that admirable quality of finding the good in each person. Ian was so grateful, regardless of his condition, and always thanked and appreciated all members of his medical team.

When Ian was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma in 2018, Ian’s life expectancy was slim, and yet he survived 3 ½ years of brutal treatment and unspeakable pain to stay with us and everyone he loved. Ian always asked: “what’s next?” He did not let a diagnosis define him and lived on his own terms.

The reality is that science did not catch up fast enough to save Ian. The Lang family is sending his cells for further study so Ian will continue to impact future research and will fight for a lasting cure and better solution to this terrible cancer in which treatment has not evolved in over 40 years.

Ian lived life to his fullest capability and squeezed more in his 18 years than most people do in a lifetime.

Ian left us too soon and is survived by an entire family who loved him, from his Grandparents down to his siblings, Tyler (15), Sophie (14) and Scarlett (10).

A graveside service will be held on Friday, June 25th at 11:00 am at The Gardens of StoneBank, on the corner of Hwy K and West Shore Drive (Please park on the road). The family welcomes all to attend a celebration of life party and car show to follow from 3:00-6:00 pm at Wern Valley Sportsmen’s Club S36W29657 Wern Way, Waukesha, WI 53189. Memorial comments will be given at 4:30 pm.

In tribute to Ian’s legacy, donations can be made to The Little Warrior Foundation to help fund Ewing Sarcoma research or to Curing Kids Cancer
