Irene was born to Eternal Life on May 18, 2017 in Wauwatosa, WI at the age of 96. Irene was born on June 12, 1920 in Anamosa, IA to the late Wencly and Alvina Marek. She received her R.N. Degree from West Suburban Hospital in Oak Park, IL and a certificate of Public Health Nursing from Loyola University of Chicago. She worked for many years as an Industrial Nurse and at various hospitals.
She married Hugh Ayers in Oak Park, IL on November 1, 1947. They moved to Wisconsin where Hugh owned the Hugh Ayers Company for over 40 years. Irene was a past President of the Marian Club of Wauwatosa, was a member of St. Joseph Parish and their Christian Women’s Association and served on the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra League Board for 10 years. Some of her many hobbies included collecting, doll making, watercolor, playing cards, watching and playing sports, sewing and needlepoint. Irene was thankful for her Catholic faith, which she shared with so many. She and her husband were Charter Members of Western Racquet Club, traveled throughout the world and enjoyed entertaining.
Irene was the loving mother of daughters Jayne (Scott Miller) Ayers of Dousman, WI, Virginia (James) Winston of Denver, CO and Arlene (James) Rawlinson of East Lansing, MI. She was the proud grandmother of Melinda and Mark Miller, Anne, Sarah, Mark and Emily Winston, David and Katie Rawlinson and five great-grandchildren. Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh, after 56 years of marriage.
Visitation on Saturday, May 27 at San Camillo Chapel (10200 W. Bluemound Rd.) at 10:00am until the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30am. Final resting place Wisconsin Memorial Park.
