James "Jim" Hurley

Passed away on August 3, 2021 at the age of 90.  Joyful husband of Joan. Amazing father of Dan (Ann), Tim, the late Mike, and Maggie.  More amazing grandpa of Andrew (Caitlin), Ashlyn, Aaron (Katie), Bo and Molly, as well as great-grandpa of Audrey, Liam, Kensington, Scarlett, Penelope and Archie. Jim will be greatly missed by other relatives and many friends.

Jim graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a PHD in engineering.  He was a professor at Marquette University and also led multidisciplinary research teams from chemistry to electronics for Allis Chalmers and McGraw Edison as a Director of Engineering.  Jim had an exciting career that spanned from programming the 1st IBM computer to working on the Apollo Space program. He was granted over 20 US patents over the course of his career and involved in countless other endeavors that advanced humanity.  

Jim’s curious spirit lead him and his family into various activities too broad to list but ranged from stamp collecting to mushroom hunting, map making to eclipse chasing. 

A Celebration of Life and Sharing of Memories will be held at the funeral home on Sunday August 8 at 11 AM.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests you perform a random act or two of kindness in Jim’s memory.
