Jane Elizabeth (nee Richmond) Shore

August 20, 1930 ~ May 12, 2022 (age 91) 91 Years Old

Tribute

Shore (nee Richmond), Jane Elizabeth found eternal peace and comfort on the beautiful spring morning of May 12, 2022 at the age of 91. Jane was a true lady in every sense, devoting her long and remarkable life to serving others with graciousness, strength and class.

Eighteen years ago, Jane lost her loving and devoted husband and best friend of 47 years, Dr. Henry J. Shore. She was the loving mother to six children: Mark (Barbara) Shore, Dr. Peter (Nancy) Shore, John (Paige) Shore, Cathy Steinhafel, the late Paul Shore, and Nancy Shore. Loved and cherished by her ten grandchildren: Margaret, Benjamin, Louisa and William Steinhafel; Colleen (Justin) Delwiche, Daniel and Emily Shore; and Grace, Alexandra and Henry Shore. Dear big sister to the late Ann (late Bernard) Hidding, Thomas (Sherrie) Richmond and James (late Geri) Richmond; sister-in-law to Harriet Shore and Dr. Paul (Sue) Shore; and mother-in-law to the late Michael Steinhafel. Further loved by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

As the first born, Jane was a precocious child, graduating valedictorian of her high school class in Riceville, Iowa before attending the College of Saint Teresa, a Catholic women's college in Winona, MN, where she received her BS in nursing like her mother and several generations of inspiring women before her. After graduating college, Jane spent a year nursing at Mayo Clinic in Albert Lea, MN before moving to Milwaukee to teach nursing at St. Mary’s Hospital. It was while chaperoning her nursing students at a mixer with Marquette dental students that her prayers were answered, meeting the gentle man who would become her lifelong partner and best friend, Henry. Together, Henry and Jane built a full and loving life focused on family, faith and adventure – raising their six beautiful children in Elm Grove; enjoying family time together at their cottage on Wood Lake; and traveling the world when their kids were grown. Jane was a gifted conversationalist and storyteller, beautiful pianist, avid and competitive Bridge player, devoted football and March Madness basketball fan, skilled antique collector, gracious hostess, and devout Catholic. She will be remembered for her keen ability to listen, her deep wisdom, her sensitivity to others' needs and concerns, her warmth and charm, her love and care for family and friends (most especially, her beloved daughter and lifelong companion, Nancy), her devotion to the Blessed Mother and Sacred Heart of Jesus, and – above all else – her generous and loving heart. As Jane was known to say, “A true lady knows when it’s time to leave the party.” You will be deeply missed, dearest Jane, but your spirit will live on in our hearts until we meet again. “All for you, most Sacred Heart of Jesus.”

In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Mary’s Visitation, Marquette University High School, Divine Savior Holy Angels High School, Marquette University and Special Olympics are appreciated.

A celebration of Jane’s life will be held on Tuesday, May 24. Visitation will be from 9:30 AM to 11:15 AM, followed by a eulogy at 11:15 AM and a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 AM, at St. Mary’s Visitation Catholic Church, Elm Grove (1260 Church St.).
