John H. Stevens

1926 ~ 2021 (age 95) 95 Years Old

Tribute

Died peacefully at home while surrounded by loving family on October 28, 2021, at age 95. He was born and raised in the farming community of La Harpe, IL, where he met and married the love of his life, Marjorie Ann, at the age of 18. The honeymoon was brief as he and his brother Don joined the Navy to serve during World War II. Stationed in Guam, John was also a talented saxophone player for the Armed Services.

John graduated from the University of Illinois in 1950 and started a lifelong career at Arthur Andersen & Co. accounting firm that same year. His early career involved a specialty in audit and regulated utilities, later making partner in 1962. John became the Managing Partner of the Milwaukee Office in 1972 and the Regional Managing Partner in 1975. From 1977 through 1979 he served as the Chairman of the Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce, receiving accolades from Milwaukee Mayor Henry Maier and President Jimmy Carter. In 1981, John transferred to the Arthur Andersen & Co. Chicago World Headquarters as Managing Partner of Partner and Personnel Matters and later as Secretary of the Board of Partners.

John was a long-time resident of Elm Grove. He was a loving husband to Marjorie Ann for 62 years until the time of her death; caring father of Nancy L. Stevens and doting grandfather to Andrew J. Stevens, also compassionate uncle, and friend to many. He was preceded in death by his wife and her sister Judith, parents Clyde and Addie Stevens, brothers Donald and Charles as well as their two infant brothers. His intelligence and charisma made him the life of any party well into his twilight years. John especially loved children and animals.
