I married into the extended family to Katy's niece Krista. At the time I first started dating Krista she was living with Don and Katy while attending grad school. I therefore was invited to and present at many of the large Sunday Dinner Gatherings at Katy and Don's house. I was overwhelmed but the shear amount of family present, but quickly understood way. This is a tight family. Full of love and joy that Don and Katy had nurtured by loving each other to the fullest and extending that love to their family, neighbors and friends (and the occasional boyfriend/girlfriend). I remember during the chaos of all those people eating, talking and carry on Katy was always cool as ever, in a class of her own.
It was Katy that made me feel comfortable and welcome more than ever. I will never forget how she took me under her wing to introduce me countless times to all of those kids! and protect me from interrogations from Krista's cousins. I married Krista a few years later and still think back to those Sunday gatherings while we lived in Milwaukee. I will miss you dearly Aunt Katy. I send all of my love to your awesome and beatiful family during this time, but know your smiling down on all of us. Uncle Don my prayers and love are with you at this difficult time. I wish you peace and countless wonderful memories of one of the most beautiful people I have ever met.

Love Nate

Mr Horning,
I'm sorry for your loss, there will be moments of sadness but in 61 years of marriage, there will be moments of reflection which will make you smile and some moments will make you laugh...all the moments you shared were PRECIOUS!
I extend many heartfelt blessings to you, your children and all those who will surround and comfort you during this time!

Our mothers (Katy's and mine) were sisters, and they made certain that my sisters and I grew up close to our Murphy cousins, who were a little older and more sophisticated. We thought everyone went to Milwaukee for summer vacation.

News of Katys's death evokes lots of memories. I hope that Don and the Horning children will be able to draw upon their own memories for comfort. Katy's was certainly a life well-lived.

Dear Don and Family: I was saddened to hear of Katy's passing. She was such a wonderful, kind woman and I always enjoyed seeing her at company functions. I pray for all of you that God eases your grief. I'm sure Jesus has welcomed with open arms and she is enjoying the company of those who have passed before her. Heaven now has a new angel to watch over all of you. “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.” Matthew 5:4

My thoughts, prayers and sympathies are with your whole family. I will always remember Katy and Don at Shorewest functions walking down the hall holding hands. What a beautiful couple! You could definitely tell that they were best friends. What wonderful role models they make for their wonderful family. May God grant you all peace knowing that she is now the "luckier one" living in Paradise.
