Kurt Henry Ziebell

August 13, 1954 ~ June 2, 2020 (age 65) 65 Years Old

Tribute

Kurt Henry Ziebell passed away on June 2nd, 2020 at the age of 65. He is survived by his daughters, Katy and Kelly; his former wife of 26 years, Karen (Zimmerman) Ziebell; his brothers John and Mark; and many other cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elizabeth (Landeck) and Russell Ziebell, and his younger brother Rusty.

Kurt was born to Elizabeth & Russell Ziebell as the second of four sons. Ever the athlete (football and wrestling) and trouble maker, Kurt graduated from Wisconsin Lutheran High School in 1972. He eventually joined the army, where he was stationed at Ft. Rucker, Alabama for 3 years and worked as a UH-1 Helicopter Repairmen & Crew Member. Before graduating from UW-Stevens Point in 1981, he canoed the length of the Wisconsin River in the summer of 1979 with his buddy Tom.

After joining the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department in 1985, he was promoted to detective in 1991 and stayed in the bureau until his retirement in 2011. While with the Department, he was a member of the Dive Team, the Tactical Enforcement Unit, and was the driving force behind the creation of the Computer Forensics Lab at the Sheriff’s Department. In 2003, he also became a member of the FBI Cyber Crimes Task Force. Throughout his career he received numerous awards and recognitions, including the IACP Second Chance Survivors’ Club.

In his younger years, Kurt enjoyed family time, hunting, fishing, and leather work, where he made badge holders, belts, and notebook covers for other officers. Later in life Kurt enjoyed wrestling with the 'cat he never wanted' Rudy, and deck time with his boy Jack. Forever the dad, he always made sure his girl's cars were kept up and made sure the lawn and garden tools at Karen's were maintained. Also forever the cop, he enjoyed daily drives to Mark’s house to ‘inspect the neighborhood’ and to sit and read the paper. We know he wanted us to keep this short and sweet, but he didn’t give us much notice. He will be greatly missed.
