We sadly announce the passing of our family Matriarch, Lois “Loie” Ladish, nee Groskopf 96, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, who died peacefully at home on January 22nd. Loie was the treasured wife of the late John H. Ladish for nearly 58 years; loving mother of William J. (Sally) Ladish, Margaret L. “Mutzie” (Chuck) Exner, Mary L. (Larry) Selander, and the late Laura Ladish (James) Jacobson; beloved grandmother of Matthew J. Ladish, Lisa L. (Tony) Gahn, Thomas W. (Allison) Exner, Daniel A. (Elaine) Exner, Abby E. (Mike) Spittler, John R. (Mackenzie) Jacobson, Brian J. Jacobson and the late Katie A. Jacobson; cherished great grandmother of Caroline and Sam Gahn, Piper Jacobson, Ellie and Ben Spittler; dear sister of the late George (Kathleen) Groskopf and the late Aubrey Groskopf (Mary Jo Gregory); caring aunt of Gina Groskopf (Mark Nevins).
Lois was the loving daughter of the late Rose (Becher) Groskopf and George N. Groskopf; beloved daughter-in-law to the late Margaret (Simpson) Ladish and Herbert H. Ladish. Loie was a graduate of both Mount Mary University and University of Wisconsin-Madison.
A consummate hostess, Lois played an instrumental role in the career-long success of her late husband, John H. Ladish, President and CEO of Ladish Malting Co., who was the love of her life. She was key in entertaining business clients for more than 50 years.
Loie was an avid painter and exhibited her work often at the Ocean Reef Club, Key Largo, Florida. Scores of her beautiful paintings adorn the homes of all her family members. As a founding member of the Marquette University Woman’s Council, she was an important participant on the Building Committee of the Haggerty Museum of Art.
Lois had exquisite taste and was always impeccably dressed; she was a quintessential role model and volunteer and inspired her family to do likewise. A devout Catholic, she served on the Marquette University Woman’s Council since its inception, for more than 40 years. Loie served on the Board of St. Coletta of Wisconsin, and Mount Mary University. Over the years, her philanthropic work always included her local parish: Christ King, St. Jerome and St. Bruno Churches. However, the greatest joy of her life was her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren whom she loved unconditionally and relished spending time with them.
Loie enjoyed her expansive circle of friends and was one of the last surviving members of her “bridge club” which (until recently) gathered quarterly since high school for lunch, laughter and camaraderie, but never once actually played bridge.
The Ladish family wishes to express its sincere gratitude to Loie’s very devoted housekeeper and dedicated caregivers for their exceptional and loving care and to the hospice team members who helped Lois transition through the last chapter of her book of life.
