Marcia Mae Rothman

March 12, 1946 ~ March 31, 2021 (age 75) 75 Years Old

Tribute

Marcia Mae Rothman (age 75) of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin passed away on March 31, 2021, in Wauwatosa. Marcia met her husband of 50 years, Philip B. Rothman, while they were students at Wausau Senior High School in Wausau, Wisconsin. Marcia captured Phil’s heart immediately. He walked her to the bus stop, held her books in one arm, and dropped his other arm casually next to hers “just in case” she wanted to hold his hand (she did). They arranged a double date with friends and Phil told Marcia he’d pick her up that night. Marcia wondered how he’d find her since she hadn’t given him her address but that was okay – Phil had already driven by her house at least fifteen times. Marcia knew that Phil was the one for her. Later, when another girl went to get in the front seat of his car, Marcia vaulted over the seat and sat next to Phil first. From then on it was always Phil and Marcia. After graduating in 1964, they went to the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point where Marcia earned her Bachelors of Science in Sociology in 1968.

Marcia and Phil were married on April 10, 1970, in Wausau. Just days after their honeymoon, on April 28, 1970, Phil left for a tour of duty in Vietnam with the U.S. Army. Marcia worked as the teen program director at the Wausau YWCA. Phil came home in 1971 and he and Marcia moved to Milwaukee. Marcia worked at Nicolet High School until their son Eric was born in 1973. Their daughter Anna followed in 1974. Marcia was an amazing mother. A description of the love and support she showed her children would take pages to write. In the mid 1980’s Marcia returned to work full-time at the Wauwatosa Public Library, where she worked until she retired in 2014.

Marcia loved reading, baking, home decorating, plays at “The Rep,” dinner and game nights with friends and family gatherings. When her children were young she and Phil planned many cross-country road trips. Later, she and Phil continued exploring the country at a more leisurely pace with Marcia’s sister Susan and her husband John.

Marcia is survived by her husband Philip, her son Eric (Sheryl) of Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, her daughter Anna (Scott) of Rescue, California, her grandchildren Sophia, Elizabeth, Wesley and Cecilia, her siblings Janice (Dick) Doede, Philip (Ginger) McCullough, Susan (John) Brothers and numerous other members of her extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents Simeon and Vera McCullough, and her infant sister, Mary Ellen.

Marcia’s funeral service will be held at Elmbrook Church, 777 S Barker Rd, in Brookfield on Friday April 9, 2021. Visitation will be from 9-10 a.m. and the service will begin at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park, 14875 W. Greenfield Ave in New Berlin.
