Found peace on October 11, 2023 at the age of 94 surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years John "Jack" Horne, daughter Mary Bruce, granddaughter Cameron Horne, parents Thekla and Rudolf Schimmel, sister Jean McDuffie, brother George Schimmel, and in-laws Grace and William Horne. A loving mother to Kathleen (Jim) Fischer, Dennis (Debra), Mike (Ellen), Pat (Melissa), David (Linda), Beth (Tom) Koch, the late Mary (Anthony) Bruce, Jim (Rita), Jeffrey (Kay). Grandmother to Jennifer (Joe), Greg, Ryan (Jacquelyn), Kristin (Matt), Lindsey (Jeremy), Rebecca (Kyle), Daniel, Kaitlin (Addison), Kevin, Brynn (Jed), Zack (Chelsea), Jordan, Seth, Ashley, David Jr., Christie (Nick), Michael (Lindsay), Kathryn (Erik), Lauren (Andrew), Isabella (Henry), Conrad, Greta, David (Meghan), Angela (Pedar), Megan, William and 22 great-grandchildren, with 3 more on the way. Loving aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Marge graduated from Marquette University nursing program and worked at St Joseph’s Hospital as the head nurse of the pediatric unit. She met the love of her life Jack at MU and was married in 1953. She took a hiatus from work to raise her 9 children and went back to work for the Milwaukee County Mental Health for 15 years until she officially retired to spend more time traveling and enjoying the Northwoods cabin with the family. In her spare time she served with many organizations including the Marquette Nursing Alumnae Association, MU Alumnae Board, and volunteered at San Camillo, Repairers of the Breach, St Vincent De Paul, and on many committees at St Joseph Parish. Her dedication to service is a true reflection of her faithful commitment of what Christ is calling us all to do.
Special thanks to Kate and Barb and the hospice staff for their assistance and companionship in Mom's final months. A special thanks to our sister Kathy who was Mom's private nurse for the last couple of years. Mom relied on her for all her medical needs, appointments, and most importantly her friendship. Additional thanks to her niece, Susie. They all made it possible to meet Mom's wishes of staying in her apartment.
Visitation will take place on Thursday October 19, 2023 from 1 to 3:45 at St Camilllus. A mass of Christian burial will follow at 4:00. A private interment will be on Friday October 20, 2023 at Holy Cross Cemetery.
