Mary Frances (Purtell) King

Entered into the fullness of Eternal Life on May 10, 2018, at the age of 80. Beloved wife of John. Loving mother of Maureen and Patrick (Trish) King and the late Michelle Skaggs. She is survived by five grandchildren, Phillip and Cortney Skaggs; Kara, Jacob and Mya King and great grandchildren, Kail, Payton and Axel. Dear sister of Dennis (Judy), Michael (Janice) and Anne Purtell and the late Dr. Robert Jr. (Mary). Daughter of the late Dr. Robert Sr. and Florence (McCormack) Purtell.

Mary graduated from Holy Angels Academy in 1956 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology at Marquette University in 1960. That same summer she married the love of her life, John. After raising her children, she worked a few years at Family and Aurora Mt. Sinai hospitals, followed by countless years of volunteer service at St. Bernard Parish. Mary served on many committees both in leadership and supporting roles. She inspired others to join her in the work of Parish Council, Prayer and Worship and Human Concerns. She especially found a calling in service to the poor, hungry and homeless. Mary had a wonderful sense of humor and took pleasure in cooking, baking Christmas cookies to share, planting flowers, knitting hats for the poor and searching for good books at neighborhood sales.

The family would like to thank Dr. Sharma and the staff at Aurora Zilber Family Hospice for their compassionate and loving care.

Visitation will take place at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 7474 Harwood Avenue, Wauwatosa on Friday, May 18, from 3:00 until 6:00PM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial. Private family interment. In lieu of flowers, memorials in memory of Mary to St. Bernard Parish are appreciated.
