Rosemarie Stack

December 12, 1927 ~ December 14, 2021 (age 94)

Tribute

Rosemarie passed away peacefully on December 14, 2021 at the age of 94.  Beloved wife of the late Alvin.  Loving mom of Greg (Andrea).  Adored grandma of Trevor (Amanda) and Kyle.  Rosemarie will be greatly missed by other relatives and many friends.

Rosemarie was the youngest of 5 children born to John and Mary Gurda, who from 1915 to 1964 owned and operated a hardware store on 32th and Lincoln Avenue in Milwaukee.   Rosemarie grew up helping in the hardware store where her smarts, dazzling smile and sparkling personality served her, and the customers, well.

Rosemarie graduated from Pulaski High School in 1945.  In unassuming yet pioneering fashion, she went on to earn her degree in Dental Hygiene at Marquette University.  Rosemarie paid for school by working as a seamstress, one of many skills at which she excelled.

Rosemarie met the love of her life Alvin Stack in Madison where she had taken a job as a dental hygienist.   Their love affair lasted for 69 years until their deaths seven weeks apart.

Early in their relationship, Rosemarie and Al agreed that he would learn to dance and she would learn to golf.   Rosemarie and Al became life long ballroom dancers and belonged to the Dancero dance club for 3 decades.   Rosemarie and Al competed in and won numerous husband and wife golf tournaments and Rosemarie was an officer and 30 year member of the Greenfield golf women’s club.

Rosemarie mastered whatever skills she set her mind to developing.   She was a dedicated and excellent dental hygienist over a 40 year career.   She was an accomplished seamstress, flower arranger, and creator of custom greeting cards for family and friends.   She was also known to update the family’s furniture by reupholstering chairs in the latest style.  An international traveler, she would spend months researching trips and learning local phrases so she could converse with residents.  This ability to connect with people from all walks of life was a hallmark of her being.   Rosemarie also became a cinematographer with Alvin’s wedding gift of a movie camera in 1952.   This started the documentation of Gurda family Christmases and vacation trips over 50 years.   For 6 decades, Rosemarie was a member of St. Mary’s parish in Elm Grove and served in the women’s club as well as being Cub Scout den mother.

As a graduate of Marquette University, Marquette Basketball held a special place for her.  She was a knowledgeable and avid fan and followed the games with her husband, son and grandsons.    Season ticket holders, Rosemarie, Al and friends followed Marquette to every game of the NCAA playoffs culminating in the New Orleans 2003 Final Four appearance for the Golden Eagles.

Her smile, her friendliness, her good humor and dedication to family and faith leave a valued, indelible legacy.
