Shoua Thao Her was born on April 3, 1964 in Naab-leem, Laos to her mother, You Khang and her father, Youa Vang Thao. In 1976, she came to the United states with her mother, sisters, and her Uncle Nou Yee’s family. When they arrived in the United States, they settled in Salem, Alabama. On June 20, 1979 she married Nyaj Toua Her. Together they have 4 sons and 4 daughters.

In 1980, Shoua and her husband, Nyajtoua Her, had their first son, Benny Her, in Salem, AL. They moved with their mother in law, brothers and uncles to Kankakee, IL. In 1984 they moved to Milwaukee, WI where they had their second son Tsaav Teev Her and two daughters, Maivzuag (Her) Xiong and Nkaujyag (Her) Chang. In 1989 Shoua and Nyajtoua moved to Sacramento, CA where Nyajtoua went to study jewelry design. There Shoua had two more daughters, Paajab Her and Kaabnpauj (Her) Yang, and a son, JouLang Her. In 1998, Shoua and Nyajtoua moved back to Milwaukee, WI. In 2005 Shoua and Nyajtoua had their last son, VaCheng Thomas Her.

In 1999, Shoua and Nyaj Toua opened a business together called NTS Jewelry and Gift. In 2009, she joined a military group called the United States National Defense Force Command. From 2012-2017 she held the position of Treasurer in the USNDFC. In 2014, because of her love and strong faith in God, she decided to open a Christian Radio Conference Call station called Yexus Yog Txujkev. She made many friends through this radio conference station. She along with a few members of Yexus Yog Txujkev led in scripture reading, singing, and prayers.

She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She loved watching her grandkids play in the playground they built in their backyard just for them. She also enjoyed gardening and learning to cook new dishes. This summer she picked up a new hobby, fishing. Shoua loved to sing christian songs.

In 2013, Shoua got really sick and was hospitalized for almost a month. Doctors couldn’t figure out what she had. They finally diagnosed her with cryptogenic organizing pneumonia which is a condition that affects the lungs. For almost a month she fought against this condition and made it through. For the last 7-8 years, she lived with a chronic cough due to her condition that only worsened over the years.

On October 1, 2020, she was admitted to the hospital due to Covid-19. Her symptoms rapidly declined but she fought each day to be with us. She fought with all her strength until her very last breath. On October 5, 2020, she was finally free of her pain and suffering.

She leaves behind her husband Nyaj Toua Her along with their 4 sons and 4 daughters and sons-in-laws; Tsaav Teev, Maiv Zuag and Vauv Kou Xiong, Nkaujyag and Vauv Kou Chang, Paajab and Vauv Michael Cha, Kaabnpauj and Vauv Yang Yang, Joulang, Vacheng and 12 grandchildren.

Shoua was a beautiful and kind hearted soul. She was loving and giving to others and never asked for anything in return. She not only was a mother to her kids but also a mother-like figure to many. She leaves a lasting impact on all those she encountered. Shoua was a strong believer of God. She lived her life doing the work of the Lord. She was truly the heart and soul of her family.
