Passed away peacefully after a long illness on Sunday, April 29th at the age of 88. Beloved husband of Alice (nee Curtis) for 66 years. Loving father of Jacquelyn (Howard) Rulf, Susan (the late Robert) Weis, Kathleen (Jerome) Zielinski, James (Rose), Diane DiMatteo, Christine (Lee) Lundwall, Mary (Mark) Sweers, Germaine (Michael) Bilicki, Cynthia (special friend Neil) Sumwalt, Steven (Julie) Biksadski. Proud Grandpa of 21 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren.
Further survived by his sister Mary Ann (the late John) Brahm sister-in-law Joan (the late Charles) Sciano. Steve is preceded in death by his parents Stefan and Johanna, older sister Jean (Frederick) Wadina. He will be remembered by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends both here and in Slovakia and the Czech Republic.
Steve loved his Catholic faith and had a special devotion to the Blessed Mother.
Steve graduated from Boys Tech, was a proud Veteran of the Korean War serving in the Air Force and retired from the MMSD.
He was active at the Blood Center as a donor; having proudly donated over 39 gallons of blood within 319 visits over 32 years. Steve was very active in the community having served as the President of the Federated Slovak Society, Chairman of the Holiday Folk Fair and Secretary of District Council 48. He was also involved with coaching baseball, Thursday night card club, being an acolyte at Medjugore night mass and also a proud member of Sacred Heart Holy Name Society.
Visitation will be held at the Becker Ritter Funeral Home on Sunday, May 6 from 4pm until time of the vigil service at 7pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will take place Monday, May 7 at Sacred Heart Parish, Milwaukee (917 N 49th Street) at 10:30am. Please meet at Church. Graveside services to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
