The sweetest lady whoever walked this earth passed away peacefully on Tuesday June 22, 2021 at the age of 99.

Ginny Rettig was born Virginia W. Goodby in Providence, R.I., the daughter of Harold W. and Marion L. Goodby. Ginny married the love of her life, Charles “Chuck” E. Rettig on August 21, 1944. They enjoyed 74 beautiful years together; Chuck passed away in 2018.

Ginny was a role model for kindness, compassion, generosity, and love, and was the world’s most loving mother. She had a sweet and gentle personality, and sincerely cared and felt concern for others. The world was truly a better place because she was part of it. She enjoyed being with family and friends, reading, travelling, and playing bridge.

Ginny was a graduate of Katharine Gibbs Secretarial School in Providence, R.I. She was initiated into PEO in 1977.

Our treasured Ginny is lovingly survived by children Bruce W. (Mary Ellen) Rettig, the late Charles N. (Carol A.) Rettig, Marcia C. (Timothy W.) Carmichael, and Donald Wayne (Amie L.) Rettig; grandchildren Bruce W. (Tracey S.) Rettig Jr., Stephen M. Rettig, and Karen Barriault; great grandchildren Sean H. Rettig, Amanda and Corey Barriault; brother Donald R. (Elia L.) Goodby; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Marcia E. (Leonard M.) Sweet.

Ginny’s family wishes to express sincere gratitude to the superb and caring staff at Lakeland Health Care Center, Elkhorn, and to the phenomenal people from St. Croix Hospice.

Memorials in Ginny’s name to United Way would be appreciated. She was always concerned with helping people who were less fortunate than she was. Ginny was truly grateful for her long and happy life, and for all the wonderful people she met along the way.
