Virginia (Ginny) was the first born of Eugene (Gene) and Marie Minks in Milwaukee, WI on January 1, 1941. Ginny was the first baby born that year in Milwaukee. She died on September 5, 2023 in Brookfield, WI. Alzheimer’s took her mind but could not dim her spirit. Raised in Waukesha, she became a nurse after graduating from St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison in 1962. In Madison, she met Mike, whom she married in 1964 in Waukesha. Together they brought into the world 11 children. Andy died in infancy. Her surviving ten sons and daughters who were blessed to have her as their mother are: Douglas (Deborah), Jane (Shawn Linnell), Jennifer Reichert (Thomas), Regina (Brandon Knedler), Delia, Brendan (Tammy), Daniel (Jennifer), Patrick (Ellen), Meghan Rowland (Don), and Kyle. There are nineteen who counted on Ginny as their grandmother. She is also survived by her brother Mike Minks, and her sisters Sally Lewis (John), Kate Platta (Nick), and Pat Minks. Ginny’s nursing career began at University Hospital in Madison (neurosurgery), and then Waukesha Memorial Hospital (orthopedic surgery). After she married Mike, she worked at County Emergency Hospital on Wells. In her mid-life, she took refresher courses and went back to work at Froedtert (hematology-oncology). Late in life she took a position as a nurse for residents in low-income housing in Milwaukee with SET ministry. Everyone who knew Ginny was struck by her smile, her compassion, her perseverance, her strength, and most of all her love. Ginny was a very spiritual person. She loved and trusted Jesus. Acting accordingly, she did love one another. Our only consolation is knowing where she is now.
