William “Bill” I. Simon was born in Milwaukee, WI on July 30, 1937. He passed away peacefully at the age of 82, on Thursday, September 5, 2019 at Froedtert Hospital.
He was the eldest son of Ervin & Verna Simon. Bill grew up causing trouble with his younger brother, Tom. Bill attended Pius High School. After high school, he enlisted in the US Coast Guard. During his time in the Coast Guard, he was stationed on Martin Reef Light Station in Lake Huron. He left the service to build a home for his family in Cheboygan, Michigan.
In the early 1980s Bill moved home to Milwaukee and met Judy. Bill embraced life as a step dad to Judy’s two young children. They spent much time travelling the country in a motor home together during summers.
Once Bill & Judy became empty nesters, they continued to travel often. He was passionate about caring for his home in a neighborhood he loved and he took much pride in his gorgeous yard. Bill became actively involved in the American Legion Post #449 and even volunteered as a bar manager for many years. He was very patriotic, he was interested in American history and building model ships. Bill also loved to watch the Packers and Brewers in his beautiful sunroom.
Bill is lovingly remembered by his wife of 35 years Judith (nee Gunther), children Christopher, Pamela (Tim) Carney, Cheryl Jacobson, Jennifer, and Billy. He is also survived by his brother Thomas (Jenny) and Judy’s children, William (Rebecca) Boppre and Nicole (Michael) Donahue, 11 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild, and brother and sister in law, nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank the caring staff of Froedtert, specifically the MICU.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2019 from 10:00 am until the 12:00 noon funeral service at Becker Ritter Funeral Home (East Chapel) 14075 W. North Ave., Brookfield, WI 53005.
