Br. William E. BiernatzkiDecember 3, 1931 ~ April 8, 2017 (age 85)
Brother Biernatzki was a member of the St. Camillus Jesuit Community and was called to Eternal Life on April 8, 2017. He was 85 years old and a Jesuit for 59 years. He received a Ph.D. in Anthropology and Sociology in 1967 from St. Louis University, St. Louis, MO. He was in the US Army serving in Korea and Missouri. He spent 17 years as a Jesuit teaching in Seoul, Korea at the Jesuit University, Sogang University. Then he served as Research Director and Editor at two Centers for the Study of Communication and Culture, the first in London and then at St. Louis. He also was an Associate Editor at the Institute of Jesuit Sources in St. Louis. When he was at the Institute, he was the Editor of Communication Research Trends. Because of health issues, he came to the St. Camillus Jesuit Community 2007.
Bro. Biernatzki was born December 3, 1931 In Niles, MI. He attended graded school in Michigan and graduated from Boon High School in Boone, IA. He entered the Society of Jesus after four years of Military service on August 25, 1957 at the Jesuit Novitiate in Oshkosh, WI. He took his final vows as a Jesuit brother in 1979 at Sogang University, Seoul, Korea.
He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Clarissa Grove of Orlando, FL and eight nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Monday, April 17 at 6:00pm in the Court East Chapel at St. Camillus. His Funeral Mass will follow at 7:00pm. Inurnment will be at 9:00am on Tuesday, April 18 at 9:00am at Calvary Cemetery.
