Rev. Robert Leiweke, S.J.December 5, 1927 ~ April 11, 2017 (age 89)
Father Leiweke was a member of the St. Camillus Jesuit Community and was called to Eternal Life on April 11, 2017. He was 89 years old and a Jesuit for 71 years and a priest for 58 years. He received a Masters’ Degree in Theology from the Jesuit University in San Francisco, the University of San Francisco. He taught at Regis Jesuit High School in Denver, CO; Campion Jesuit High School in Prairie du Chien, WI; and Creighton Prep Jesuit High School in Omaha, NE. At these schools and in Archdioceses of Omaha, NE, Des Moines, IA, and Milwaukee, WI he was a pastoral minister and spiritual director to hundreds of priests, religious women, and lay men and women. He was also a much sought after director for private retreats. He was cherished and loved by his Jesuit brothers as a trusted confident and confessor.
Fr. Leiweke was born in St. Louis, MO on December 5, 1927. He attended Grade School and High School in Fairfield and Springfield, IL. He entered the Society of Jesus on August 8, 1945 and he was ordained a priest on June 18, 1958 at St. Mary’s College, St. Mary’s, KS.
He is survived by a brother Richard (Mary) Leiweke from Heron, IL.
Visitation will be on Thursday, April 20 at 5:30pm in the San Camillo Chapel, 10200 W Bluemound Road. His funeral Mass will follow at 7:00pm. He will be buried at Mt. Olivet Cemetery at 9:00am on Friday, April 21.
